Is photoshop the silver bullet ?

Oh well, I can always fix it in photoshop...

Can you sense the sarcasm ?

Photoshop can't fix everything, but it certainly does help to make a regular image better, or to really bring out color balances and tinting. I certainly enjoy using the program and think it can do wonders to really make photos look more professional or vivid, or just well done...but it isn't the magic fix that some people think it is.

Sure, for the 99% of the ''photographers'' that dont have lots of specific education, training, experience, and most importantly the desire to take exciting technically correct photos in their cameras, photoshop can be the ''cure all''.

To a point.

If your in business, it is better to ''get it in the camera''. Keeps post-production costs down, so photogs can make better $$.

If your having fun, photoshop is part of experience.
as ryan says its good for the 99% that dont have the skills to get it right in camera..........still cant turn a sows ear into a......

There are some people who consider working in photoshop a form of art. For them it isn't really FIXING a photo in photoshop, but their real skill and interest IS in photoshop more than in handling a camera. So taking a photograph using the camera is just one part of the process, the photograph is just one rough input -- the final work of art is made using photoshop. They'd give more energy to learning to use photoshop WELL, than a camera ;).
It is always better to get it right the first time. Speaking of time, you often save a lot of time getting it right on location verses slaving away on the computer.
