You can do it easily by dragging 2 guides one vertical and one horizontal and then placing the object right in to the center of the document.

There is no key or shortcut, that can do that for you.

One other way is to select the object you want and place it on the center of the document by typing specific coordinates

I hope you have the object in seperate layer and not as one background. and this is only possible if u are using the PS CS or PS7.0. the process is:

1) select the layer of the object

2) press 'V' for move tool and then press 'CRT+A' to select the entire canvas

3) on the top of the option menu, press the vertical and horizontal centre button.
